DAS BLÜHENDE LEBEN

A LIFE IN BLOOM

(Germany, 2013)

Chopping down a tree in the woods, the widowed Fockebernd meets the uprooted and homeless "man-ivy" Woody. Together they are not as lonely, but Fockebernd soon realises that it is senseless to cling to a moment in time - as ivy clings to a tree.

This film is about the human nature of holding onto things that he cannot control - I called it 'ivymism'. It's a film about letting go. I made it when I was struggling with sickness in my close family. This is also the first time Woody the man-ivy appears.
